Partitur

A dinnerware set inspired by music, coffee, and modern Nordic design

When a dinnerware set remains popular for decades, it's rarely just about its appearance. It's about how it functions in everyday life, how it feels to use, and how it fits into the home. Partitur from Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik is precisely such a set.

With its distinctive black lines, white surfaces, and artistic expression, Partitur has become one of Porsgrund's most recognizable series. The dinnerware combines modern design with Norwegian porcelain tradition, and is equally suitable for a quiet morning coffee as it is for a dinner party or weekend breakfast.

Many choose Partitur because it is stylish, graphic, and timeless. It works particularly well in modern kitchens with black details, natural materials, and Scandinavian interiors, yet its expression is warm enough to fit into most homes.

The mugs that have made the series popular

Norwegians have a special relationship with mugs.

A favorite mug is often used every single day. This means there are high demands for comfort, design, and functionality.

Norway is among the countries with the highest coffee consumption per capita in the world. Traditional black coffee is still very popular, but in recent years, interest in espresso, cappuccino, latte, and specialty coffee has grown significantly.

Coffee shops have become social meeting places, and more and more people want to recreate the same experience at home. This is where Partitur fits in naturally. The tableware has a look that resembles modern coffee shops, while also being designed for Norwegian homes.

Cup and saucer 20 cl Barista

One of the series' bestsellers is the 20 cl Barista cup.

The cup was developed with a focus on the optimal coffee experience and was designed by Poul Jenssen in collaboration with Robert Thoresen, former World Barista Champion.

The shape is carefully thought out:

  • The thickness helps keep the coffee warm longer.
  • The shape works well for cappuccino and other milk-based coffee drinks.
  • The cups can be conveniently stacked on the coffee machine.
  • The design is inspired by professional coffee shops.

For many coffee enthusiasts, a good cup of coffee is not just about the beans or the brewing method. The cup itself influences the experience. Temperature, aroma, and mouthfeel become different when the cup's shape is developed with this in mind.

The Story Behind Partitur

Partitur was launched in 1999 and is designed by artist Ole Lislerud. The décor is inspired by the score of the ballet The Tempest by the renowned Norwegian composer Arne Nordheim. The ballet, in turn, is based on The Tempest by William Shakespeare. A score is the sheet music that shows all the voices in a musical piece collected together. The conductor uses the score to see the whole of the music. In the same way, the Partitur dinnerware gathers different shapes, sizes, and decorative elements into a harmonious whole on the table. The black lines can resemble staff lines, handwritten comments, and musical sketches. At the same time, they create an exciting contrast against the white porcelain. The result is dinnerware that feels both artistic and minimalist at the same time.

A dinner set with distinct character

While many dinnerware sets are decorated with flowers or traditional patterns, Partitur has a more modern and architectural expression.

The black decor gives the dinnerware a character that many associate with urban interiors, coffee shops, and modern Nordic design. Therefore, many find that the series fits particularly well in kitchens with black details, dark countertops, oak, concrete, or steel.

At the same time, the white porcelain helps to create balance. This means the dinnerware never appears heavy or dominant but comes across as elegant and timeless.

Partitur often appeals to people who want dinnerware with a little more personality than classic white porcelain, without it becoming gaudy or trend-driven.

Norwegian porcelain since 1887

Partitur is made from high-fired feldspar porcelain – the same porcelain quality that has been a part of Porsgrund's history for generations. The material is known for its strength, clear glaze, and beautiful whiteness.

This makes the dinnerware well-suited for daily use.

Many choose Partitur because it works equally well for everyday use as for entertaining. It can withstand being used, washed, and placed on the table again and again without losing its appeal.

Good dinnerware shouldn't just look good in the cupboard. It should work in real life.

That's why Partitur has become a bestseller

Partitur has remained popular for several decades because the series combines several qualities many people look for:

  • Modern design that doesn't go out of style
  • Artistic expression with Norwegian roots
  • Functional cups and mugs developed for everyday use
  • Durable porcelain
  • Wide range of products and sizes
  • Suitable for both everyday and festive occasions

For many, Partitur is a dinnerware set that grows over time. People often start with a favorite mug or some coffee cups, before gradually expanding with side plates, dinner plates, bowls, and serving dishes.
