What inspired you to create this particular table setting for May 17th?
Nostalgia!
How do you put your personal touch on the traditions surrounding the celebration?
When I was setting the table with the traditional Bondemønstert (Farmer's Pattern, launched in 1932), it was almost obvious that I should also use glasses from the equally traditional Norgesglass (Norway Glass, came onto the market in 1902). Norgesglass, both new and old, were used as vases on the table. Every May 17th table surely has elements of red, blue, and white; some fresh green accents in the bouquets highlight the national colors. Here I have used anemones, roses, germini, baby's breath, delphinium, and birch twigs.
Do you have a tip for easily elevating a festive table?
I think cloth napkins help elevate any festive table, and of course, fresh flowers.
Is there anything you are looking forward to this spring, now that it's finally here?
There is so much to look forward to; here at my place, a bunch of geraniums will move out into the greenhouse as soon as the frosty nights are over, and a pile of dahlia tubers will go into the soil.
