Design: Ole Lislerud
"Gud er Kvinne" ("God is a Woman") is a work of art created by Ole Lislerud in 2000, commissioned by the Faculty of Theology at the University of Oslo. The work is situated in the entrance area of Domus Theologica and extends across two of the building's four walls.
Using porcelain tiles and airbrush technique, Lislerud combines figurative prints, texts, and images to form a collage of powerful religious and cultural symbols.
The work reflects the lives of the students at the faculty, who daily face questions and challenges relating to the changing nature of religion. Through motifs such as Jesus, Marilyn Monroe, and text clippings in various languages, the diversity of beliefs and backgrounds is expressed. The phrases "God is a Woman" and "Everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die" appear clearly, while other symbols and graffiti create a dynamic and thought-provoking artwork that is both visually and emotionally engaging.
