PORSGRUND PORCELAIN FACTORY
Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik (Porsgrund Porcelain Factory) was established in 1885 and, since its first firing in 1887, has produced porcelain for the Norwegian market, including dinnerware, vases, and other objects. It was Johan Jeremiassen who initiated the establishment of the factory in Porsgrunn. Jeremiassen was a prominent businessman in Porsgrunn. He was the deputy mayor of the city and also ran businesses in areas such as shipbuilding and ice export. From the start of production, Porsgrund has been one of the country's foremost design companies, and well-known names such as Tias Eckhoff, Nora Gulbrandsen, and Konrad Galaaen have been important contributors in creating the Porsgrund we know today. High professional competence and understanding of materials, combined with creative and innovative solutions, have made the factory a household name in Norwegian industry that most people in Norway have a connection to. MODERN DESIGN FOR OVER A CENTURY
The production of porcelain significantly raised the standard in the homes of ordinary people. Local production was more affordable than imports, which meant that more people had the opportunity to buy products that previously had only been available to the wealthy.
Since its early years, Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik has in many areas been a leading company, with its innovative, brave, and creative approach to consumers, and innovative solutions.
A number of the greatest and most important Norwegian industrial designers, such as Nora Gulbrandsen, Tias Eckhoff, Konrad Galaaen, and Eystein Sandnes, were employed as designers at Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik. They left their distinct mark on design and production and were very important for the Porsgrunds Porselæn brand.
Throughout the years, high demands have been placed on the people who developed the product series. This has resulted in good cooperation between the artists and designers, focusing on high professional competence and material understanding. This philosophy has made Porsgrund an institution within Norwegian industry, and a well-known and beloved brand for most Norwegians.

QUALITY SINCE 1885
Several of our dinnerware series are still produced at our factory in Porsgrunn. Bogstad Strå is one of our most traditional dinnerware series; its decor is hand-painted by Porsgrund's best porcelain painters, in keeping with old tradition and design. This dinnerware has been in production since manufacturing began in 1887. Each hand-painted product from Porsgrund bears the initials of the painter, and can therefore be traced back to the specific artisan.
The decor that graces Bogstad Strå is referred to by many as the "eternal pattern." This precise decor is believed to be one of the world's oldest porcelain patterns.
